It’s that time of year again when thoughts turn to festive plans, and we recognise that this can be a time of reflection and sadness for some, who perhaps are no longer surrounded by family and friends making plans to spend time together.
We know that many older people can sometimes go days without seeing or speaking to anyone, which is one of the reasons behind our annual Christmas call companions campaign, when we recruit even more volunteers to make one call a week during December to an older person, to check in, chat and remind them that they’re not forgotten. We’re delighted to have received a record number of Christmas call companion volunteer applications this year, and we’re busy connecting people who’ve signed up with an older person, ready to make those calls that really do make a difference.
We’re gearing up for the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2024, which is a fantastic opportunity to have a donation to us doubled at no extra cost to you. Every donation made between 3 and 10 December will be matched, meaning we can reach even more older people living with loneliness, all year round. We'd love your help to share the news, so check out our social channels from early December to like, comment and share.
Later this month, we’ll be revealing our brand-new animation for 2024, which we’re thrilled to have worked on with some of the creative team behind classics like Paddington and Shaun the Sheep – look out for the film soon on social media and beyond!
Best wishes,
Jenny Willott

Our volunteers are the driving force behind the services we provide to older people, making a lasting impact through their dedication to reducing loneliness and social isolation. In partnership with The Marsh Charitable Trust, we’re excited to invite you to nominate a Re-engage volunteer for their incredible contribution. Please nominate today and spread some cheer to those who give their time to make a difference.
When Ella met Valerie at a Re-engage tea party, their cross-generational friendship formed. Fast-forward a few years, and the now-teenager's been inspired by her older pal to reach for the sky in her future career - what's more, the social group that first brought the pair together could be revived, following a pandemic pause.
Whether you’re a volunteer, fundraiser, donor, or you spread the word about our work, you’re helping us reduce loneliness in later life for older people across the UK. Thank you very much for your support.
