One of our priorities, along with raising the funds to deliver services which help reduce loneliness, is amplifying the voices of older people. We’re proud to work with other charities and organisations to draw attention to the circumstances of people aged 75 and over, and to the specific challenges many face. One such charity is the Campaign to End Loneliness, which we are deeply sorry to see closing after more than a decade of advocating for change for people living with loneliness. The organisation has been a leading voice in the fields of loneliness and connection since 2011, and over the years has paved the way to ensure that the people most at risk of loneliness are reached and supported with effective services and activities. We’re thinking of everyone affected by its closure, we’re thankful for the work they've done, and for the legacy they leave behind.
At the end of April, I represented Re-engage to reiterate our support for the call for a Commissioner for Older People and Ageing in England, led by Independent Age. This role would be independent of government to raise awareness of - and work to resolve - issues that people can face in later life. A Commissioner would have the power and remit to bring together government departments to put in place solutions that benefit everyone as they age. We're looking forward to seeing how the campaign progresses and being part of it.
Do you know a Re-engage volunteer who goes above and beyond to help reduce loneliness for older people? Whether they’re an activity group host, a call companion or a tea party driver, or they volunteer for us in another way, you can let them know just how appreciated they are by nominating them in our annual Volunteer Awards – check out the details below.
Thanks, as always, for your support and interest in our work. Please do follow us on social media, and if you’d like to get in touch directly, please visit the
